Memory Loss

Today’s Caring Minute is about Memory Loss.

Memory loss is not a normal part of aging. We all have those times when we forget names, where did I park my car, what did I do with my keys etc but when those memory lapses start interfering with your everyday activities that should be a red flag that more attention is needed. Do you have a family member who is forgetting to take medications, has unpaid bills, gets lost while driving? Are you noticing a change in personality or repetitive conversations? These are all examples of possible problems that should be brought to the attention of your family doctor. A good comprehensive assessment is needed to rule out treatable causes for the memory loss problem such as depression, thyroid issues, infection etc and then determine next steps.
